Drew University's Equestrian Team had another successful show, placing third overall at an All-Region Show held at Centenary College on Sunday. Two Blue Ribbons, from Jonas Colmer and Christine Karas, were the highlights though five second-place showings were imperative to the team's overall placement. The Rangers finished just a single point behind the second place team while collecting 37 points, the team's high for the season.
Sarah Colmer, Katie Kramer (twice), Mollie McGann and Anjelica Veca all grabbed reserve champion honors. Veca's strong performance qualified her for the regional championships, the sixth Ranger to meet the standard this season. Kramer's two second-place ribbons kept her in second place in the regional Cacchione Cup standings.
The Rangers had 23 riders earn points, a season high. In the Open and Intermediate Fences classes, the Riding Rangers did particularly well. Katie Kramer, Sarah Barbato and Rachel Denning took third through fifth place, respectively, in Open Fences with Haley Flagg earning reserve honors. Sarah Colmer and Ashley Kraft placed second and third in Intermediate Fences. Colmer has placed in the Top 3 of the Intermediate Fences class in five of six shows this season.
Kramer placed second in Open Flat as well, tying with teammate Mollie McGann. McGann has come on strong as the fall season draws near a close; the first-year has been fourth, second and second in her last three shows in Open Flat.
Jonas Colmer grabbed the Rangers' first Blue Ribbon of the day with a great ride in Novice Fences. Colmer had been second twice this season before winning his first Blue Ribbon at this show.
Christina Karas earned Drew's second Blue Ribbon in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. It was also her second of the season.
In the Alumni classes, Kristine Kennedy C'06 won the Flat class and placed second in Fences.
The Rangers will look to improve upon their fourth place standing in the region as they compete in two shows this coming weekend.
