Drew women’s soccer picked up a quality point via a 1-1 tie at Catholic. Christine Meconi’s first half goal held up for fifty minutes, but the host Cardinals were able to equalize through Helene Nicoletti. Kim Jaikissoon made seven saves for the Rangers, including three in overtime to earn the point for Drew. At 3-1-1 in the Landmark Conference, Drew is in a three-way tie for second place with Moravian and Catholic at 10 points. Susquehanna, in first place with12 points, comes to Ranger Stadium next Saturday for the regular season finale.
Drew’s high pressure defense forced a turnover that Courtney Carnevale grabbed and fed to Meconi in the 12th minute. The sophomore has been in great scoring form and chipped the keeper for her fourth goal in three games. The Rangers held that lead until the 62nd minute when Kelly Donnelly fed Nicoletti who headed inside the far post. Drew held on for the tie thanks in large part to Jaikissoon’s strong performance in goal.
At 3-1-1, Drew is tied for second and not certain for the Landmark Playoffs. Catholic and Moravian, both tied with Drew with 10 points, face each other on Saturday. The Rangers take on first place Susquehanna while fifth place Scranton (7 points) takes on last place and winless Goucher. The Rangers can still finish anywhere from first to fifth place in the conference.
Before Drew gets to solve this Landmark postseason puzzle, it will take on FDU on Tuesday at 7 pm at Ranger Stadium.
