Alicia Rapp earned EWFC Saber Fencer of the Year honors at the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference Individual Championship meet. Six fencers earned All-Conference honors at the event held at Stevens Tech. Unfortunately, the Rangers' streak of six consecutive EFWC Team titles came to an end last week as Drew finished third at the overall team championships.
Rapp earns the third EWFC laurel in her career. She was a second team honoree in '07, first team in '08 and now the Fencer of the Year in '09 as the gold medal winner in Saber. Rapp's teammate Carlin MacNichol earned first team honors; it is the second such honor for the sophomore who was a first team honoree last season as well. Amanda Tarallo placed seventh to earn second team honors.
All three of Drew epee fencers earned All-Stars nods as well. Allison Walters and Katie Galpin both earned first team All-Star recognition while Naomi Bocarsly took a second team spot. It is Walters' third straight EWFC All-Star season having been named to the first team last year. Bocarsly finished out her senior season by earning her fourth EWFC honor.
Haverford College won the EWFC dual meet championship for the first time ever with a 6-0 record. Johns Hopkins University landed in the runner-up spot with a 5-1 showing. Drew went 4-2 and had its impressive six-year run as the league's leading program ended with a third-place finish. Stevens Institute of Technology (3-3), City College of New York (2-4), Hunter College (1-5), and Yeshiva University (0-6) rounded out the standings.
