Drew's equestrian team pulled double duty this weekend, competing on both Saturday and Sunday in IHSA Horse Shows. On Saturday, Drew placed a reserve champion college at the IHSA Show hosted by Stevens. On Sunday, the Rangers placed sixth, but maintained their second place standing for the overall season.
The Rangers had a great show on Saturday, placing second and seeing a pair of riders qualify for Regionals. The team placement preserved reserve champion college in the overall standings. James Fairclough qualified for Regionals in Open Flat by taking the Blue Ribbon in that class. In fact, the Rangers took the top three spots as Carolyn Curcio and Hailee Greene placed second and third, respectively. In Novice Fences, Ellen Joyce won the Blue Ribbon and Stephanie Rees took second place. The Rangers best class performance came in Walk Trot Canter. Drew riders took the top three spots with Laura Lakin and Anne Daniels both earning blue ribbons and Sara Lovett taking second place. In Walk Trot, Sean Ireland placed second.
In the Alumni Classes, Sandra Sayre won both fences and flat.
On Sunday, the Rangers placed sixth of 11 colleges at a show hosted by SUNY-New Paltz. The Riding Rangers won eight blue ribbons on the weekend and maintained second place in the overall regional standings.
Rachel Denning won the Open Fences class on Sunday with teammate Hailee Greene placing second. In Open Flat, Carolyn Curcio placed second just like on Saturday. Anne Daniels took second in Walk Trot Canter to finish her strong weekend. Kristine Kennedy qualified for regionals in Alumni Flat and Alumni Fences by winning the fences class and placing second in flat.
