Equestrian Earns Champion College in First Show

Drew Equestrian's 2008-09 season began with an incredible start.  The Rangers were the Champion College at the IHSA Show hosted by Drew and Sarah Lawrence at Briarwood Farm on Sunday.  James Fairclough and first-year rider Haley Flagg tied for top point rider as the Rangers took seven blue ribbons.  Sophomore Ashley Kraft placed first in Intermediate Flat along with Flagg.  With a total of 35 points the Rangers took first place in the Show.

 

   

The defending 2008 National Cacchione Cup Champion, James Fairclough, began his season in great form.  The senior took a blue ribbon in both Open Flat and Open Fences to earn top point rider for the show and begin his march towards another Cacchione Cup title.  First-year Haley Flagg was fantastic as well.  In her first collegiate show, Flagg tied with Kraft for first in Intermediate Flat and with Fairclough in Open Fences.  Kraft did herself proud with first in intermediate flat and third in Novice Fences.  Rachael Mikelson placed third in Novice Fences to earn four points as well.  Sophomore Rachel Denning placed third in Open Flat and fourth in Intermediate Fences.  With her performance in fences, Denning qualified for Regionals in the event.  Amanda Meys took second in Walk, Trot and Anne Daniels placed second in Walk, Trot, Canter.

The show also saw Kristine Kennedy take first in Alumni Flat and Fences for the total of seven blue ribbons.
