Freshman Brenda Kramer scored 14 points as the Rangers took down the Catholic University of America Cardinals, 64-61 at Baldwin Gym in Madison.
The Rangers improved their record to 12-10, 3-9 in the Landmark Conference while the Cardinals fell to 12-9, 4-6 in the conference.
The Cardinals jumped out to a quick lead and had the Rangers by nine with 13:07 remaining in the first half. The Rangers then went on a 12-3 run that put them ahead by one, 18-17 with 9:09 to go in the half after a jumper from sophomore Danielle Barber.
The Cardinals went on a 12-4 run to take a 31-22 lead with 6:08 to go before the Rangers a pair of jump shots and two fouls shots and a three-pointer from sophomore Victoria Ault to tie the game at 31 all with 3:16 to go in the half. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way as the Cardinals took a three-point advantage into the locker room.
The Rangers jumped out to a seven-point lead in the second half when Jessica Del Vecchio made back to back three pointers and a jumper by Blazovic gave them a, 46-39 lead with 15:38 remaining. The Cardinals went on a 9-0 run, to go up 48-46 before rookie Brenda Kramer hit both foul shots to tie the game at 48.
With the game tied at 59-59, thanks to Del Vecchio’s made fouls shots with only 4:34 to go in the game, Barber dished the ball to Kramer who made a easy layup to take a two point lead, 61-59 with only 41 seconds left on the clock. Brielle Crites made a jumper for Catholic for the eighth tie of the game before rookie Dana Coronato hit two crucial foul shots with three seconds left to go ahead by two, 63-61. Kramer was fouled on the inbound pass as she hit one of her shots for the 64-61 victory.
Kramer posted a season high 14 points, she was 4-10 from the field and 6-8 from the foul line. Del Vecchio was a perfect 4-4 on the foul line as she tallied 12 points while Ault scored ten of her own. Barber posted seven points and a team high five rebounds along with Blazovic who also dished out four assists.
The Rangers take on the Goucher College Gophers tomorrow afternoon here in Baldwin Gym at 2:00pm. Just a reminder to Ranger fans, Drew Athletics and the Center for Civic Engagement is holding a bone marrow drive tomorrow from 1:30 to 5:30pm.
The Cardinals travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy tomorrow to take on the Mariners at 2:00pm in King's Point, New York.
