Rangers Magic Run Comes to an End
FREDRICKSBURG, Va. (May 15, 2010)- The Drew Women’s Tennis Team had one of their best seasons in the program’s recent history come to a close as they fall in the second round of the NCAA tournament, 5-0 to #10 Carnegie Mellon.
The Rangers earned a berth to their first NCAA tournament and got the program’s first NCAA win yesterday over Western Connecticut State all in the same season. The annually ranked Tartans of Carnegie Mellon were a tall task for the newly crowned Landmark Conference Champs.
The Tartans were the first team all season to blank the Rangers as they grabbed a 3-0 after doubles play. Carnegie Mellon would get two victories at the beginning of singles play from Cze-Ja Tam and Jennifer Chui to seal the victory.
The Rangers finish 2010 with record of 13-4 and now have a lot to build off of for next season. They will return 11 of their 12 roster members of 2010. They will have to fill a void left by first-team all-conference performer
Michelle Gbelama (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) who played in her final match in a Drew uniform this afternoon.
The Tartans will advance to the Sweet 16 and take on The College of New Jersey tomorrow to determine the region’s representative in the quarterfinals.
