Bucknam, Mendelson Named to Scholar All-America Team
BALTIMORE, Md. (May 21, 2010) - The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced its Scholar All-America Team today comprised of Division I, II, & III Lacrosse players who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities.
Jon Bucknam (Flemington, N.J/Hunterdon Central) and
Brad Mendelson (Owings Mills, Md./The Park School) become the second and third players in the history of the Drew Lacrosse Program to be named to the prestigious team. Michael DiGiovanni become the first player after being selected to the squad last year. Bucknam and Mendelson are two of the 40 Division III lacrosse players be selected and Drew is one of four schools to in the entire country to have multiple players selected. In all, 70 student athletes from all divisions are selected to the All-America team.
Bucknam lead the team in points each of his four years on campus and was a first-team All-Landmark selection for three years. At the conclusion of the 2010 season he was named as the Male Athlete of the Year and finished off his college career with nearly a 3.7 GPA. He graduated Cum Laude two weeks ago.
Mendelson had the finest year of his career in 2010 as he was named first-team All-Landmark and was named the 2010 Team MVP by his teammates. He was seventh in Division III with a .651 save percentage and led the Landmark with a 5.20 goals against average.
The scholar athletes will be recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet in Baltimore on Sunday at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel. The banquet is held in conjunction with the Division II & III Lacrosse Championships held at M&T Bank Stadium this weekend.
