MADISON, N.J. (May 5, 2010)- The Drew Rangers cruised past the Susquehanna Crusaders for the second time in five days 15-4. With the victory, the Rangers will make their third-consecutive appearance in the conference final.
The Rangers opened the game with a 5-0 run, spanning over the first ten minutes. The Susquehanna defense finally shut down the Rangers’ surging attack and even after Lindsey Derstine scored. The Rangers offense would be silent over the next 10 minutes but only for so long.
The Rangers went up 6-1 after sophomore midfielder
Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington, N.J./Pennington) netted her second of the game. Drew closed out the half up 8-1 after juniors
Cara Jeffries (Central Square, N.J./Paul V Moore) and
Rebecca Schild (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) scored in the final 05:00.
The Crusaders traded goals with the Rangers over the first five minutes of the second period but Drew soon made it clear that they were not letting up.
Junior attacker
Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md./Calverton School) led another 5-0 Ranger run with three scores. Jefferies scored her second of the game in the run and freshman
Devon Affleck (Abington, Pa./Abington Senior) scored for the first time as a Drew Ranger.
Crusaders’ leading scorer Sarah Wright scored her 40th of the season with 06:04 left on the clock but the Rangers continued to dominate both sides of the field.
In the net for the Rangers,
Rachel Hanley (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made 11 saves en route to her 10th victory of the season.
For the Crusaders, Emily Stankaitis made 12 saves, her record fell to 9-6.
Rossi and Brown both finished with four goals for the Rangers, senior
Elizabeth Law (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) scored for the second straight game against the Crusaders.
The Rangers await the winner of the other semifinal game between the Catholic Cardinals and Goucher Gophers who face off today at 4:00pm in Washington, D.C.
