Esposito Has Hat Trick as Ranger Roll in Opener
Box Score
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 1, 2010) - The Drew Field Hockey team got off to an explosive start to 2010 as they blanked Sweet Briar 10-0 for the second-straight year. Junior
Mary Esposito (Woolwich Twp., N.J/Kingsway Regional) and
Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) each scored three goals in the lopsided victory.
With the victory this afternoon Head Coach Felicia Cappabianca has now won three of the four season openers in her tenure at Drew. The match took place at Catholic University's Cardinal Stadium in a neutral site game.
Esposito and
Melissa Kistle (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) provided the Drew offense with the first three goals of the contest. Esposito broke the scoreless tie with her second career goal which was assisted by Kistle. Esposito would return the favor to her classmate as she was credited with an assist on Kistle's first goal of the young season. The two would team up one more time on a corner to make the score 3-0.
As the Ranger offense continued to find the back of the net, it was the defense that kept them up for good. Each of the three goalies on the roster saw playing time without making a save. Junior
Lauren Fasano (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) was credited with the win. Sweet Briar spent little time on the offensive side of the field as the Drew defense did not surrender a shot on goal in either half.
Freshman
Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) got her Drew career off to a good start as she scored her two goals in her collegiate debut.
The Rangers will play Cabrini in their home opener on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
