EQUESTRIAN GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
HILLSIDE, N.J. (September 11, 2010 - This past weekend Drew's Equestrian Team proved they can be successful off the horse as well. Taking their second annual trip to the Community Foodbank of New Jersey, the team volunteered their time to give back to the community.
The Community Foodbank of New Jersey, located in Hillside, N.J. distributes over 23 million pounds of food and groceries a year. This food is used to serve 1,656 non-profit programs including 436 programs served by its Partner Distribution Organizations (PDOs). Through their combined efforts, they assist three-quarters of a million low-income people in 18 of New Jersey's 21 counties.
On September 11, the Drew Equestrian team joined the fight to stop hunger and poverty. They spent the morning in the warehouse sorting pallets of donated items. These items consisted of canned goods, water, prepared foods and household products. As a unified team, Drew was involved if every aspect of distribution. They sorted items, wiped down cans and containers, assembled and packed boxes of donated goods, then placed them onto pallets by category.
For the second year, the team enjoyed donating their time and being part of such a great organization. Looking down the road and years to come, the Equestrian team will continue to aid in the fight against hunger annually.
