Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (September 5, 2010) - Coming off of a victorious double overtime win last night, the Rangers sealed the deal today by dominating the final round of the Drew Fall Festival. The Rangers three first half goals were more than enough to hold off the Keystone Giants and clinch the title this afternoon.
Getting off to a great start, the Rangers got on the board in under five minutes. This goal was one of pure teamwork, Matthew Greenberg (Franklin Lakes, N.J. / Indian Hills) reached a streaking Adrian Kawuba (Watertown, Mass. / Lexington Christian Academy) who turned and set up Matthew Gragnano (Hazlet, N.J. / Hazlet Christian Brothers Academy) catching Keystone's goaltender flatfooted.
Having almost complete control of the ball in the first half, Drew took nine corner kicks, two of which found their way to the back of the net. Only 10 minutes after the first goal,a charging Will Brackett (Wycoff, N.J. / Ramapo) headed a corner delivered from Kawuba into the back of net. A couple minutes later, Greenberg lobbed up a perfect head ball for Gragnano to tap into the far left corner. The goal gave Grangnano three for the weekend which would eventually earn him Offensive MVP award.
In the second, the Rangers kept the offensive momentum by not allowing any shots from the Giants. Off the bench, Roman Jablonskyj (Long Valley, N.J. / Gill St. Bernards) put another on the board by blasting a ball from the far sideline to the far top corner out of the reach of the goalkeeper. To put the game out of reach, Kyle Reinhardt (Andover, N.J. / Newton) found Alex Buethe (Shorewood, Wis. / Shorewood) cutting between defenders. Buethe's goal put the Rangers up 5-0 giving them their first shutout on the season.
A credit to Drew's defense, neither Jeff Rogers (Eldensburg, Md. / Century) nor Rich Boland (North Kingstown, R.I. / Moses Brown) recorded a save in today's contest.
With this victory the Rangers captured the Fall Festival Championship making this their 15th on record. Men's soccer returns next weekend where they compete in the Rutgers-Newark tournament.
