Sophomore John Nogiewich (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South)
put the Rangers in position to win with 4:11 seconds left in regulation with his second goal of the game. With 1:40 remaining in regulation, Scranton forward Nick Paganelli responded with the tying goal and sent the game into overtime with the score tied at three.
After a scoreless first extra frame, the Royals completed the comeback just 42 seconds into the second overtime on shot by Bill McGuiness that hit the right post and went in. The victory gave the Royals sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference and left the Rangers in a pack of four teams vying for the final three playoff spots.
Nogiewich had his second multiple goal game of the season, scoring his first goal midway through the first half. After another quick response by the Royals that gave the home team a 2-1 lead going into halftime, the Rangers were credited with an own goal in the 62nd
minute to tie the game up at two.
Sophomore Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran)
played every minute in goal for the Rangers, making two saves. Royal netminder James Dillon made a game-high five stops to earn the victory. Scranton held a 19-15 edge in shots and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Rangers will return home for the first time since October 3rd
on Wednesday when they take on a Merchant Marine in a crucial Landmark Conference game. The contest will be the second game of a soccer doubleheader with the men slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
