TOWSON, Md. (February 4, 2012) – Goucher (4-17, 1-10 Landmark) erased an 11-point first half deficit and hit a shot from just inside the free throw line with five seconds left to defeat the Rangers, 66-44 in the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. The loss drops the Rangers to 5-17 on the year and 3-8 in the Landmark Conference.
A block by Goucher's Marcus Cotton on the defensive end with 28 seconds remaining gave the Gophers an opportunity for the final shot with the score tied at 64. Freshman Damon Brooks got the ball near the top of the key, drove right and hit a running jumper in the lane with five seconds left to give the home team a two-point advantage. The Rangers had a look from the right wing rim out as time expired, giving the Gophers their first conference win of the season.
The Rangers had three players in double figures, led by junior
Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) who had a game-high 23 points. Seniors
Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Dara Mc Keon (Dunboyne, Ireland/St. Peter's College) combined for 27 points and nine rebounds. Mc Keon was 5-for-13 from the floor and hit three 3-pointers.
Drew struggled to stop the inside force of Trae Lindsay who scored a team-high 19 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. Freshman Troy Parker Jr. complimented him from the outside, with 19 points of his own including three 3-pointers.
The two teams split the season series for the fifth-straight season and marks the second-straight loss for the Rangers at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
The Rangers will be back in action next weekend with their final Landmark Conference weekend of 2012. Moravian comes to Madison on Friday night at 7:30 followed by Scranton on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
