TOWSON, Md. (February 4, 2012) – For the second time this season against Goucher (5-17, 1-10 Landmark), junior
Victoria Ault (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) pulled down 20 rebounds to help Drew (8-14, 4-7 Landmark) get past the Gophers, 47-41 in the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
Back on January 20
th against the Gophers, Ault flirted with the single game school record for rebounds in a game by pulling down 22 rebounds. She nearly matched her performance today against the same opponent on the road, grabbing 20 rebounds to go along with seven points. Senior
Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.) was the game's leading scorer, pouring 14 points and collecting nine rebounds.
The Rangers held an 11-point advantage with five minutes remaining and held off a late Gopher charge for their fourth conference win of the season. Goucher held the Rangers scoreless for nearly a three-minute stretch and closed the gap to seven with 2:09 remaining game.
After a layup by
Logan Cavanaugh (Rutland, Vt./Burr & Burton Academy) with 1:35 to play, the Gophers scored the next two baskets to make the score 45-41 with 18 seconds on the clock. A pair of free throws by Barber sealed the fate of Goucher with 15 ticks left as the Gophers got only one shot off in the final seconds.
Precious Kollock led the gophers with 11 points including a 5-6 effort from the charity stripe. Elizabeth von Ende hit the Gophers only two 3-point attempts of the night and finished with eight point and eight rebounds.
The Rangers will return home for the final three games of the regular season and look to keep their playoff hopes alive next weekend. On Friday night the Rangers will play fourth-place Moravian at 5:30 p.m. followed by third-place Scranton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rangers are currently tied with Merchant Marine for fifth place and will face the Mariners in the season finale at Baldwin Gym on February 18th.
