More Accolades Roll in for Hirschberg, Rock

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (May 9, 2012) – The New Jersey College Baseball Association announced its annual All-State Team this afternoon that listed both Head Coach Brian Hirschberg and reliever Pat Rock (Cranston, R.I./Providence Country Day). Hirschberg was named co-Coach of the Year and Rock was a Second Team All-State selection.

Earlier in the week, Hirschberg was named the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year while the junior, Rock, was a First Team All-Conference selection.

Hirschberg, in his first season at the helm of Drew, took over a program that won just one Landmark Conference game a year ago to a school-record nine in 2012. The Rangers 22 wins this season are the second most in school history and a 9-9 conference record earned their first ever Landmark Conference berth. The Rangers pulled off the improbable, upending the top-seeded Moravian
Greyhounds in the first round and advancing all the way to the conference championship game. Against the same Greyhounds,  the Rangers won their first conference championship on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth by senior Tom Murray.

Rock's 1.24 ERA was the lowest in the Landmark Conference and he was second in the league with five regular season wins. The Ranger closer had a hand in 13 of the Rangers 22 wins. He recorded a league-high six saves and struck out 23 batters in 35 innings of work. In the Drew postseason run he was credited with two wins including a five-inning relief effort in the first round.
