MADISON, N.J. (May 3, 2012) – Voted by the Landmark Conference head coaches, senior
Sean McGowan (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph) was named Player of the Year while freshman
Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) earned Co-Rookie of the Year Honors. Head Coach Tom Leanos and his staff were voted as the league's Coaching Staff of the Year. The Rangers landed a conference-high six players on the All-Conference Team.
McGowan had a record-breaking year for the Rangers in his senior season. The midfielder served as the team's primary face-off man, leading the Landmark Conference in winning percentage and going into this week ranked as the top face-off man in all of Division III lacrosse. He has scooped up a conference-high 153 ground balls on the season and earlier in the year broke the school record for career ground balls. To go along with his dominance in the face-off circle the senior tallied a career-high 23 goals, good for second on the team. He has totaled 43 points on the year ranking 10
th in the Landmark Conference.
Lamon had a breakout season for the Rangers his first year in Madison, starting all 15 regular season games. The freshman scored 21 goals, good for fourth on the team and assisted on seven others. He ranks in the top 25 in scoring and the top 30 in points. He was second only to Merchant Marine's Geoff Harty in scoring among the league's first year players.
Head Coach Tom Leanos wins his fourth Coach of the Year Award and his second in the Landmark Conference. He won the award in the inaugural year of the conference back in 2008 after the Rangers went 5-1 in the league in regular season play and eventually went on to win the first Landmark Conference Championship. After being picked fifth in the conference preseason poll, the 2012 team set a new program-high in regular season wins with 12 and eclipsed the overall win record after a first-round victory over Scranton. The Rangers went a perfect 8-0 outside Ranger Stadium this season for the first time in school history.
First Team All Conference
Dominick Reda (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) makes his first all-conference squad serving as the Rangers top defenseman. He leads the Rangers and is 12
th in the Landmark with 15 caused turnovers. His 53 ground balls rank third on the squad and 11
th in the league. He was integral in the Rangers 11-10 overtime win over Swarthmore earlier this season, scooping up a career-high 10 ground balls and causing a turnover.
Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School) was the Rangers top scorer at attack in only his junior season. He is also appears for the first time on the league's All-Conference list after a stellar third season at Drew. Humphreys found the back of the net a team-high 30 times in the regular season and put together a four-goal performance in the Landmark Semifinals. He leads the team with 34 goals and 43 points. Amongst Landmark opponents he is fifth in goals and 10
th in points.
Second Team All-Conference
Last year's top Landmark goalkeeper,
Charlie DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) gets his second-straight All-Conference nod after capturing a career-high 12 regular season wins. He was second in the league with an 8.09 goals against average and made a total of 150 saves on the year. The senior has eight games this season with 10 or more saves including a 14-save effort against Scranton in the Landmark semifinals.
In his first full season as a starter,
Aaron Davis (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) earned his first career All-League honor after starting all 16 games at defense for the Rangers. Davis ranked second on the team and 15
th in the league with 13 caused turnovers in 2012. The junior is force in the Ranger backfield and key factor in the Rangers 261 team clears. He added three assists and his first career goal on the offensive side of the ball this season.
Steve Gentile (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) was continuously one of the team's offensive threats this season. He started all 15 games in which he appeared, scoring 17 goals and assisting on 16 others. He netted the game-winner in overtime against conference opponent, Catholic on April 5
th. Gentile ranked eighth in the league in assists and is one of the league's top 20 goal scores in 2012.
