MADISON, N.J. (February 8, 2012) – Day one of the 2013 Landmark Conference swim championships saw a pair of top three finishes by Drew swimmers and a plethora of season-best times.

Junior Mariel Schwinger (Los Angeles, Calif./Sherman Oaks) was the top Ranger finisher on the day. She earned Landmark All-Conference honors with a second place finish in the 500 freestyle. Her time finals time of 5:15.24 was a little under four seconds off her own school record set her freshman year.

Classmate Jess Harrington (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) narrowly missed a school record in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle. Her prelim time of 25.33 was a new lifetime best and the second fastest swim in school history. She nearly matched her time in the finals later on in the evening, swimming a 25.50, good for third place.

A total of six swimmers qualified for the evening finals including Harrington and Schwinger. After finishing seventh in the 50 freestyle last year, junior Alexa Morrissey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) moved up a slot, placing sixth with a time of 25.64 in the finals.

Junior Jordan Bader (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) qualified for the finals in the 500 freestyle and placed 13^th in the evening finals with a season-best time of 5:36.81.

The men had two evening qualifiers in sophomore Clayton Curran (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) and junior Thomas DiGuglielmo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk). The second-year swimmer Curran, placed 14^th in the 50 freestyle with a time of lifetime best of 22.48. His 50 time tonight was the fourth fastest every by a Drew swimmer. DiGuglielmo was top male swimmer on the day for Drew, placing 13^th in the 200 individual medley. He turned in a lifetime best of 2:04.98 which topped his prelim time by more two seconds.

Landmark Conference Championships continue tomorrow at Marywood beginning at 10:30 tomorrow morning.
