MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 5, 2015) – Despite a record-setting effort from freshman goalie
Ryann Callaghan, the Drew University field hockey team fell in its final Fall Fest game, 3-0 to Cabrini College.
With 13 saves, Callaghan set the record for saves in a game by a freshman cage minder. She also placed tenth all-time for saves in a game.
Despite a 15-shot first half from Cabrini, the score stayed locked at 0-0. Callaghan saved eight in the half alone. Just five minutes in, the Cavaliers were attacking the cage. Callaghan redirected one try and lunged to knock away the rebound shot.
Callaghan didn't do it all, however. When Callaghan got too far out of her crease, sophomore midfielder
Michele Pozyc swept in and flipped a would-be goal away before it could trickle in. The effort kept it scoreless with 20 minutes to go in the first half.
Pozyc and Callaghan teamed up at the beginning of the second half as well, exchanging saves just two minutes in.
With 13 minutes to play, Cabrini finally broke the scoreless tie. A hard shot pinballed around, hitting off one Cavalier and filtering through to another, who flicked it into the open cage.
Just two minutes later the Cavs would score again, this time on a line drive deflection by the same scorer. Another Cavs tally with a minute left closed the book on the day.
With Fall Fest having concluded, the next contest for the Rangers will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 9
th at 7:00 p.m. as they host the Stevens Institute of Technology at Ranger Stadium.
