Five Rangers Picked for Landmark All-Sportsmanship

TOWSON, Md. (Nov. 16, 2016) - The Landmark Conference has named five Drew University student-athletes to the 2016 Fall All-Sportsmanship Team, which includes one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team.

The All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. The student-athletes selected demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals. These student-athletes exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, spectators, and the greater campus community.

Women's Cross Country
Senior Donia Abdeljabbar is a three-year runner for the Rangers and the perfect fit on the All-Sportsmanship team due to her demeanor in practice and at meets. This season, she ran her career best time in the 6,000-meter run at the Landmark Conference Championships and was one of the five point scorers for Drew at the championship meet.

 Men's Cross Country
Junior Tiago Dos Santos has emerged as a vocal leader on the men's cross country team. He is the elder statesman on a young team with two years of experience, turning in his career best 8,000-meter time at this season's Inter-Regional Border War at Rowan University.

Field Hockey
Sophomore defender Kate Todero took on a new position with open arms this season for the good of the team. She scored her first career goal this season against FDU-Florham, and helped anchor a defense that allowed just six goals on 216 penalty corners allowed. She bolstered the backline with five defensive saves.

"Kate is a real team player and a student of the game," said head coach Jess Gray. "She loves competition and is quick to talk about others' strengths, even if it is an opposing player. She holds herself respectfully, win or lose. I am proud to coach her."

Men's Soccer
Junior Eduardo Martinez is an extension of Drew's coaching staff, which is why he was selected as a captain and the Rangers' choice for the Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team. As a starter, he produced one goal and one assist this fall, while shoring up the Rangers' backline as a defensive minded midfielder. He ranked fifth on the team in minutes played this season.

"Eddie showed great leadership early in his career at Drew, which is why he was made a captain as a junior," said head coach Lenny Armuth. "He is very respectful of opponents, referees and the game of soccer."

Women's Soccer
Senior goalkeeper Andee Higgins has been a constant presence for the Rangers on the field over the past four years, while also leading the team vocally and by example. She completed her career in The Forest with 11 wins and 122 saves, while serving as a team captain her senior year.

"Andee has always personified the meaning of being humble in victory and gracious in defeat," said head coach Christa Racine. "She set a great example for the younger players on how to be both a respectful teammate and opponent."
