Rangers Open Season With 67-43 Rout of Wilson

MADISON, N.J. – On Friday night, the Drew University women's basketball team (1-0) posted a dominant 67-43 victory over Wilson (1-1) in the opening game of the 26th Rose City Tip-Off Classic at Baldwin Gymnasium.  All 12 Rangers who played scored, led by Hailey Stine's (Annandale, N.J.) 17 points, as Drew led from start to finish.

The Rangers stormed out of the gate and never looked back, scoring the first five points of the game and extending their cushion to 20-3 late in the first quarter.  Drew led 21-8 after the opening period and 31-18 at halftime.

After Wilson sank a three-pointer to pull within 10 on the first possession of the second half, Stine hit a three to spark a 13-4 Drew run that pushed the lead back to 19 points, 44-25, with four minutes left in the third quarter.  The Rangers entered the final period with a 48-31 advantage, and the margin reached a game-high 27 points at 63-36 on a layup by Sarah Henig (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) with 3:13 remaining.  With the 67-43 victory, Drew won its season opener for the third consecutive year and moved into the title game of the Rose City Classic for the first time since 2015.

Stine drained four treys as part of her game-high 17 points.  Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) had 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in her first collegiate game, and fellow freshman Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) tallied nine points and nine boards off the bench.  Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists, while Henig pulled down eight boards.  Ally Raulf (Stewartsville, N.J.) added eight rebounds, as the Rangers held a 56-40 advantage on the glass.  Drew shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the field, 25 percent (5-of-20) from three-point range, and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) at the free throw line.

Jordyn Day led Wilson with 10 points.  Ashley Henderson registered eight points, while Lindsey Purvis grabbed eight rebounds.  Michaela Singer distributed four assists and Jasmine Wallace notched five steals.  The Phoenix shot 21 percent (13-of-62) from the floor, 20 percent (4-of-20) from downtown, and 52 percent (13-of-25) at the charity stripe.

Drew will take on Widener (2-0), a 70-63 winner over Albertus Magnus, in the Rose City Classic championship game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Wilson and Albertus Magnus will meet in the consolation game at 2 p.m.
