MADISON, N.J. – Yonathan Napoleon
(Los Angeles, Calif.) and Riley Collins (Lacey, N.J.) combined for 47 points on Saturday night, as the Drew University men's basketball team (1-1) opened its home schedule with a 97-87 win over Brooklyn in the opening game of the Rose City Classic.  Napoleon finished with 27 points and six assists, while Collins had 20 points and nine assists to lift the Rangers into the championship game for the third straight year.

The Rangers raced out to an early 8-2 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied to go up 21-15 midway through the first half.  Brooklyn led by eight, 29-21, when Nate Aldrich (Franklinville, N.J.) hit a jumper to ignite a 10-2 Drew run that tied the game at 31-31 with 4:03 left before halftime.  With the score knotted at 37-37, Napoleon sank a trey to put the Rangers back in front with 1:09 remaining in the first half.  The Bulldogs countered with a three-pointer of their own before Darius Reiter (Littleton, Colo.) and Collins each hit a triple on Drew's final two possessions of the half, giving the Rangers a 46-40 halftime edge.

Brooklyn scored the first four points of the second half to get back within two, 46-44, before a Collins jumper started a 7-0 Drew rally that pushed the Rangers' cushion back to nine points, 53-44.  After the Bulldogs again cut the margin to two at 78-76 with 6:27 remaining, Napoleon nailed a three to start an 8-0 spurt that made it 86-76 in favor of the Rangers with 4:15 to go.  The teams traded baskets the rest of the way, as Drew earned its first victory of the season, 97-87.

Four Rangers scored in double figures.  Reiter finished with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Aldrich just missed his second straight double-double with 10 points and nine boards.  Sky Harris (Edison, N.J.) contributed eight points off the bench, and Dan Roibal (Middletown, N.J.) secured seven rebounds to go along with five assists.  Drew shot 54.5 percent (36-of-66) from the field and outrebounded Brooklyn 42-39.  The Rangers went 14-for-31 (45.2 percent) from long range and 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) at the free throw line.

Ben Batash, Niv Kofino and Daniel Shulman each tallied 15 points for the Bulldogs.  Henry O'Reilly and Noah Shy added 11 points apiece, while Michael Tesoriero contributed nine points and four assists.  Maynard Grant IV pulled down seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, who shot 43 percent (34-of-79) from the floor.  Brooklyn shot 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from downtown and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) at the charity stripe.

Drew will face NJCU (2-0), an 82-76 winner over Gwynedd Mercy, in the Rose City Classic championship game at 4 p.m. on Sunday.  The consolation game will pit Brooklyn against Gwynedd Mercy at 2 p.m.
