MADISON, N.J. (April 7, 2017) -
Jason Fein, Drew University's Director of Athletics since 2008, will depart The Forest this summer to assume the Director of Athletics role at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
Â
Bates competes as a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Fein will begin his tenure with the Bobcats in July, spearheading the department's 31 varsity teams, 12 club sports and nearly a dozen intramural athletic leagues.
Â
"My heart is heavy today," Fein said. "I've been blessed to work with some of the greatest coaches and student-athletes in the nation over the past nine years. We've accomplished some great things together and I'll miss seeing the achievements of our teams in person each and every day. Drew gave me a wonderful opportunity, and I just hope that everyone knows how much I appreciated being our athletic director. I know more great things lie ahead and I look forward to remaining a part of the Drew University Athletics family for years to come."
Â
During his nine years at Drew, Fein has overseen an expansion of athletics programming, upgrades to facilities and an increase in fundraising and alumni engagement. Most recently, these include theÂ
addition of men's and women's golf to the Rangers' varsity roster, theÂ
refurbishment of Baldwin Gymnasium and theÂ
success of the Blue & Green Alumni Challenge.
Â
In 2016, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) honored Fein as a Division III Athletic Director of the Year and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named him the Division III Administrator of the Year.
Â
"Jason has been an impactful and charismatic member of the Drew community at the helm of our athletic department for nearly a decade," said Robert J. Massa, Senior Vice President for Enrollment and Institutional Planning at Drew. "Although I will miss his leadership in Athletics and especially his entertaining wit, this is a fantastic opportunity for Jason. I know I speak for the entire community in thanking him for his extraordinary contributions to Drew and its student-athletes."
Â
Fein has helped make significant progress on Drew's athletic master plan, created with the intention of enhancing the Rangers' facilities. Projects completed include the installation of a synthetic turf at Ranger Stadium, the redesign and renovation of the varsity locker rooms, the branding of the second floor athletic offices and fitness center, and the recent upgrade to the weight room equipment.
Â
With a background in athletic communications, he has modernized Drew's athletic brand identity and introduced an improved fan experience through digital and social media. As a national leader, he has served on NCAA, NACDA, ECAC and other league committees on topics of diversity and inclusion, governance and awards.
