MADISON, N.J. – After finishing 15th in the 1650 yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships last weekend, Mal Vishwanath (Bangalore, India) of the Drew University women's swimming & diving team has been named honorable mention All-America by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).  She becomes the first Ranger since Lauren Kenworthy in 1999 to earn All-America status.

The Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Year, Vishwanath took part in three events at the NCAA Championships.  She placed 22nd in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.05, then set a school and conference record of 1:52.40 to secure 23rd place in the 200 yard freestyle.  Vishwanath capped the competition with a 17:12.63 clocking in the 1650 freestyle.  That effort was good for 15th place and two points in the team standings, giving Drew its first team score at the NCAA Championships in nearly 20 years.

"Mal had an incredible year, and I'm glad to see that her hard work paid off," Head Coach Rich Munson said.  "Placing at NCAAs is a huge accomplishment and I can't wait to see what she can achieve next year.  Congratulations!"

Athletes receive CSCAA All-America honors based on their placement at the NCAA Championships.  Those who finish first-eighth are named First Team All-American, while the ninth-16th-place finishers are honorable mention All-Americans.
