Three different Rangers scored in double figures and the Drew University men's basketball team celebrated its first home game of the season in Baldwin Gym with an 85-50 Landmark Conference (LC) victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Nate Aldrich
(18 points, 10 rebounds) and sophomore forward Malachi Walker
(10 points, 10 rebounds )each posted a double-double to lead the Rangers (12-3, 4-0 LC), who are 12-3 for the first time since 1979-80.
How it Happened:
Drew was in control from the start after it opened the game on a 17-6 run, and the Gophers (3-12, 0-4 LC) were unable to draw closer than seven the rest of the way. The Rangers closed the period on a 10-5 spurt to open up a 37-22 lead at the break. Drew pushed its advantage over 20 less than four minutes into the second half and put it out of reach with an 11-0 run midway through the half that made it a 31-point game.
Aldrich shot 8-for-16 from the field and scored 14 of his points in the first half en route to his fourth double-double of the season. Walker notched his first career double-dip and added three blocked shots for good measure. Junior guard Riley Collins
pitched in with 14 points, seven assists, and four steals while freshman guard Drew Gallagher
dished out five assists in 12 minutes off the bench. Eighteen Rangers played in the game and 12 entered the scoring column.
Drew shot over 50 percent from the field for the second game in a row, finishing at 51.5 percent, while limiting the Gophers to a 32.7 percent mark. The Rangers out-rebounded Goucher 46-31 and were credited with an assist on 26 of their 35 field goals.
The Rangers return to Landmark Conference action on Wednesday, when they host Moravian College at 7 p.m.
