The Drew University women's soccer team will broaden its horizons when it embarks on a 13-day European Tour from June 11-23.
Twenty-one Rangers will take part in the excursion, which will include stops in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and France. The team will participate in three international friendlies and will also experience the ultimate soccer experience when they attend a pair of Women's World Cup matches in Nice, France on June 19 (Japan versus England) and June 22 (teams to be announced). In addition, the squad will visit some of the most spectacular tourist attractions in each of the five countries.
The trip will mark the program's sixth international tour under head coach
Christa Racine and the first since the Rangers visited Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic in the summer of 2015. The NCAA permits Division III schools to travel abroad once every three years outside of their traditional season to play games in other countries.
"This is a tremendous experience for our student-athletes," said head coach
Christa Racine. "Some of the highlights of the trip will be the quality time that the team will be able to spend together, the level of competition, and the sights and sounds that are so different and unique in the various European cities we will visit. Also, the timing of this trip is special because it will allow us to attend the Women's World Cup."
The tour will help Drew prepare for the 2019 season, which begins Aug. 30-31 with the Centenary University Cyclones Kickoff Classic.
