No. 9: Michael Pezzuti and Ricardo Castro Named NSCAA All-Region

The 2013 Drew University men's soccer season featured quite a few exciting moments. The Rangers reached double-digits in wins for the seventh straight year, including Drew's 30th consecutive victory against crosstown rival FDU-Florham and a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime triumph over Muhlenberg College at Ranger Stadium.

Drew also kicked off action at Ranger Stadium – and a six-game winning streak – with a 3-1 defeat of Johns Hopkins University at the annual Fall Festival. The men's soccer squad relied heavily on a balanced mix of talented newcomers and its reliable leadership. Two of those leaders were honored with National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region accolades at season's end. Junior defender Michael Pezzuti earned First Team All-Mid-Atlantic, the first Ranger to make the First Team since 2011, while senior midfielder Ricardo Castro made the Third Team.

Pezzuti made his first career All-Region team after starting all 20 games for Drew last fall and was one of head coach Lenny Armuth's most versatile players on the pitch. From his center back position, the junior scored two goals and registered two assists. He was credited with the game-winning goal against Hunter College in the second game of the Rutgers-Newark Tournament. After earning Landmark All-Conference Second Team honors as a sophomore, he was named to the First Team in 2013.

Castro finished his illustrious three-year career with his first All-Region selection. The three-time Landmark All-Conference honoree and the 2011 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year led the Rangers in scoring last season. He tallied a total of seven goals and five assists in 2013, ranking him third and second in the Landmark Conference, respectively. He finished his Drew career with 14 goals and 15 assists. Six of his 14 career goals were game-winners.

Castro and Pezzuti were two of 10 players from the Landmark Conference to earn All-Region honors. Pezzuti and The University of Scranton's Bill McGuinness were the only Landmark first teamers.
